Fornaci Calce Grigolin explores AI-powered vision systems for raw material analysis
Fornaci Calce Grigolin is currently exploring the potential adoption of a new high-velocity vision system to enhance the monitoring and control of raw materials in its production processes. The technology under consideration is based on artificial intelligence and advanced image processing, enabling continuous analysis of the rock material transported on conveyor belts.
The system would include a high-speed camera positioned above the conveyor, combined with a dedicated image processor capable of capturing and analysing the materials in real time. This would allow the detection and measurement of the size of visible rock fragments larger than 20 mm, categorising them into predefined size ranges. The resulting data can be used to calculate the overall particle size distribution of the incoming material stream.
If adopted, such a solution could be integrated with the plant's automation infrastructure for automatic evaluation and decision-making, and could also be connected with broader production monitoring platforms compliant with Industry 4.0 standards. This investment would directly support the objectives of PRIM-ROCK by advancing digitalisation and raw material intelligence in the mineral processing sector
This exploration represents a key step toward smarter, data-driven operations and increased process efficiency in raw material handling.
