Greek Pilot unit
H2 Living Lab in Athens
The Greek pilot will be implemented in a H2 Living Lab, located in the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), at TRL 6.

The pilot area comprises an ATEX IIC classified area is supervised by a Safety and Protection System (SPS). Hydrogen equipment is powered by a smart grid, operated through an intelligent energy flow monitoring and control system.
The NTUA H2 Living Lab will create an environment allowing the methodical approach focused on PRIM‑ROCK technologies, providing a data flow for AI model training.
Use Cases
The limestone and magnesite industrial use cases will be demonstrated at the NTUA pilot, focusing on IFRK prototypes.
Lime Production

-
Fornaci Calce Grigolin that has been operating for over 55 years in the field of lime production. PRIM‑ROCK will gather data to develop a digitalisation framework for the production facility, using digital twin methodologies to improve the calcination process.
The consortium will also develop an RMI system to optimize kiln performance, removing unwanted materials in the raw material stream.
Magnesite Production

-
TERNAMAG is a magnesite and magnesia producer and a member of GEK TERNAMAG Group, one of the leading business groups in Greece.
PRIM‑ROCK will implement a similar process to the Fornace use case for TERNAMAG, with the goal of clean CO2 production.
Spanish Pilot Unit
Microwave and Plasma Laboratory in Barcelona
The Spanish pilot will be implemented in the microwave and plasma laboratory located in Eurecat, in Barcelona.

In the dedicated pilot area, there is a Microwave Induced Plasma (MIP) torch already installed, with a System which is versatile and can be adapted to PRIM‑ROCK requirements.
The lab’s current assembly will be modified to allow the generation of plasma from various types of gases.
Use Cases
The laterite, sphalerite concentrate and chalcopyrite industrial use cases will be demonstrated at the Eurecat pilot, encompassing IFRK, MRK and MIP prototypes.
Ferronickel
Production

-
The NTUA use case aims to improve ore sorting in the processing phase, eliminate the use of coal in the reduction process, and produce a high nickel content ferroalloy.
Sphalerite Concentrate and Chalcopyrite Production

-
KGHM is a key global copper producer based in Poland, and Hellas Gold is based in Greece, producing lead/silver concentrates, zinc concentrates, and gold/pyrite/arsenopyrite concentrates.
PRIM‑ROCK aims to achieve sphalerite concentrate and chalcopyrite roasting using the novel IFRK and MRK technologies, recover hydrogen through the PRIM‑ROCK developed MIP reactor and re-introduce it to the roasting process. Custom heat exchangers will be deployed for controlled gas cooling.
